Our week long Gold Coast holiday was......good?...it's not bad but maybe I went with the ideal holiday of tanning on the beach, splashing in the ocean and swimming with the waves whole week long. It turned out that I sort of forgot to include my darling baby in the picture. T turned out to be utterly terrified of the sound of crashing and gentle lapping waves. There was simply no way to get pass the shallowest part of the sea without her kicking and crying and pointing to the exit of the beach screaming,"There! There! There!" (In translation, she wants to get out asap as far from the water as possible.) You get the picture, so my ideal beach holiday went out of the window from the first day of our holiday. Anyways, the waters were still quite chilly and I probably won't be able to stay in too long either. Neither could T since she has a lower body fat (insulation) content. Maybe when summer comes and the water becomes warmer, T might like it better then....maybe...
On second thoughts, though my ideal holiday was not realised, we had fun hiking up Mount Warning, spending the day at Byron Bay (a hippie town of NSW) enjoying the sun and biting into organic cinnamon sugar dusted donuts (yum!I still crave for them every now and then), building sandcastles and doing cartwheels on a deserted beach, eating fish and chips near the ocean, shopping at Habour Town, went to Natural Arch to say hi to our glow worm mates and many other activities that we squeezed into that one week which I can't recall offhand.
It was one good relaxing week and it felt unreal to be back on Monday and be at work on Tues. But it only took a week to get settled back into our normal life routine of causal work, gym, baking, doing stuff with Tasha, meeting up with friends etc. Like yesterday, after hitting the gym with Ana (my neighbour who is the same age as me and has a son that is just a few months younger than T), we decided to bring the kids (she has a 18month old son, Jack Jack) for a swim and then for lunch. It turned out that the pool was closed and we ended up at a nearby playground for the next half hour. When Tasha and I finally got home at 3pm, I decided to bake some bagels for Josh's dinner. So that was my challenge for the day.
I really did no research beforehand and just went along with a recipe from a mostly reliable foodblog site's recipe. Its till afterwards that I realised there were a ton of steps which I missed out. My wrong for being simply so impatient to sink my teeth into a chewy bagel but the end result of my first attempt wasn't too bad after all. Considering the fact that there were no research put into it and a chewy bagel-y texture and appearance was attained. I've made mini bagels 'cos the normal size ones are simply too big to finish and mini ones are cuter. =P A girl will always be a girl and have a soft spot for cute stuff i.e babies, puppies, kittens......you know what I mean. I'm also hoping to use them as mini party food for some upcoming church farewell parties.
Would definitely attempt bagel making a few times more before granting them access beyond my taste panel's (J&T) lips. ;)
Cut the talking now and here are some pics of our holiday and my #1 Bagel attempt....
