O-HAI-YO!!!

Just came back from Rach's sushi bdae party and with Tashy over at mum and dad's place, it means I'm getting my much needed break after busy week. This is actually the first week of getting back into part time work at coffee club since I got back from SG. Really surprised that they still want me (being their most expensive casual) with the bad economy. Surely they must not be doing too badly, i guess.

Besides that, been back into my watercolour classes and of course, cake decorating esp with birthdays and a wedding coming up in May. And what better gift to give than a gift made of lots of love. So back to Rachel's birthday, as a birthday gift, I made her a boxful of pineapple tarts (which recipe is not what I learnt in SG. Since there's no such thing as the pineapple filling you can get at NTUC or Poon Huat, I have to make my own. And I spent about 4 hours in front of the hot stove in a muggy kitchen stirring the jam. This is not just a gift of love but a one of sweat and sacrifice! =P

And of course, a party is never complete without a birthday cake. Rach especially requested for the lemon and raspberry cake which made for Becky's,Cat's and Josh's graduation last year. So I made this!

A raspberry cupcake with lemon curd and cream cheese frosting. Yummmy! As Josh puts it," The lemon curd kept the cake moist but not soggy. The flavours of the cake blended really nicely without being overpowering at all." Looks like I'm nurturing a gourmet food taster here in my house. ;)

To go with the whole japanese theme, I made kimono dolls and a bonzai cherry blossom tree. With the tree representing 10 years and a year for each doll to celebrate her 19th bdae. Everyone seemed to love enjoy the cupcakes and esp the boys since they have never been to a party with such modelling figurines. They just can't wait to bite into the head and make their own "skewer dolls". So much for my hard work....=P

Davie, one of the boys, enjoyed playing with the models so much that he requested for a Lord of the Rings chess set cake for this 18 b'dae (which is 2 years time). He wants me to make a weapon for each model so that it can be used to stab the opponent with. So that's what guys like for a cake.

I gotta say that though I might have missed out a few hours of sleep, been grumpy due to that, having to get organised with my cooking, it is really rewarding to be able to bring a smile to everyone's faces with my labour of love. Coming from Davie," Wei'er's cakes is not just how it taste but how it looks. It always look good!" "And it always taste divine!" added Chazz . Hearing that really really really made my day. I can't wait to start working on my next one.....=)

Sally: lolz!!! its funny how our mind works isn't it? Since young i always have this dream which i so vividly still remember to this day of sitting down with my family of two kids and an ang moh husband to have dinner. And well, it seemed that the ang moh husband and one kid came thru. So one more to aim towards i guess. =)
