Its 4.44am in morning and i'm up. wELL...of course its normal for me since i have a 15weeks baby to tend to. BUT i'm not up for that reason (or else i wont be blogging right now..). I'm up cos both my feet are itching like crazy!!! And guess what thats from? Jellyfish stings from dead jellyfish that was washed onshore on Anzac day. We were there taking pictures after visiting Eummandi markets and thought it would be nice to walk along the beach to end the day.
Its coming to the end of jellyfish season and along the fringe of the shore were covered with lots of bluebottle jellyfish with long blue tentacles. As i have seen lots of dead jellyfish (but not the blue bottle) i thought no harm of it at first but thought it would be better to play safe and not tread on them. It was actually Josh who tread on them on purpose to prove that they dun sting anymore and i was the one who end up with tentacles weaved around both my ankles.
(Want to know how a blue bottle look like? see below link...)
Though those tentacles were similar to the size of a thread, the sensation of millions of microscopic hooks digging into my skin was.......PAINFUL!!! A burning sensation spread along where the stings were and stayed for about an hour. We were supposed to wash it with vinegar immediately but where in the world are we suppose to find vinegar when we are plonk right at the rocky end of the beach. It took a very calm Joshy about 20mins to assure me that i'm not gg to die. (always thought that stings from blue bottle jellyfish kills). Anyways, i put up with the pain (nothing compare to childbirth) and treaded cautiously back. I'm not very keen on getting more stings.
There are Singaporeans who found themselves vulnerable to piling the weight on due to the change of the Aussie weather. Whereas i found myself ultra vulnerable to stings and bites from the Aussie wildlife. Since i have been here, the below is a list of the attacks that i have suffered over the past one year that i have been here.
While we were looking for places to take our wedding pictures, Josh and i waddled up a creek unknowing to the dangers that lurk within. When i got on the car, Josh realised that i was bleeding from my ankle. To my absolute horror, i had about 3 black and ugly leeches wriggling and feeding furiously off my ankles. Though there were no pain at all, the thought of them being at such a close proximity was totali disguisting. Good thing we had some insect repellent and Josh to get rid of them for me. I was so shocked that i just closed my eyes till the whole ordeal was over.
On my honeymoon, suffered from millions of sandflies bites all over my body. Was itching like crazy for about a week plus. The itch kept getting worse that i was waking almost every night to scratch myself. It was until the bites start to turn into a greenish-yellowish colour that i took a powerful dose of anti-histamine that totally knock me out. Recovered from that immediately but had the scars for a few months.
Had a tick embedded under the skin of my neck when we went camping along with the youth group. I felt like a dog afterwards as i always have the association of ticks with dogs only.
And when my life does not involve any adventures, Mrs Mossies would be on the look out for my blood. I'm always the one taking the bites for Joshy and unlike S'pore's mossies, these bites last for two weeks before they decide to go away.
And just recently, the attack of the stings from Mr Blue Bottle jellyfish.....
By now, i'm 101% assured that they (the Mr and Mrs or Miss insects or whatever wriggly, slimy, stingy stuff..) are always on the lookout for me.... Guess my foreign blood and flesh are more tender and sweeter than the true blue Aussies...

Oh dear Wei'er.. I hope the itch goes away soon... :) I agree with you on the attraction of insects. Spiders seem to love me here... I had to kill 6 in my bedroom last year and I even found one in my bed!!
May the insects find new playmates soon! :P
lolz..talking abt spiders...i just used my vacuum cleaner to suck one big huntsman up....have no idea how to kill them so just suck them up for now ...=)
Haha... that is what I do too!! =) When the vaccum cleaner is not out - I whack them with my slipper! Hehz...
